About The Artist & The Art
Discover the Worlds of Brandy Masch
Brandy Masch creates narrative, surreal landscapes where animals carry urban habitats and environments on their backs. Her work combines intricate detail, playful imagination, and a deep reverence for nature, animals, and the ocean. Each painting invites viewers into worlds that reflect the fragile balance between humanity and the natural world, sparking curiosity and wonder.
Artistic Vision
Since 2007, Brandy has explored the concept of animals as carriers of human worlds. Inspired by the whimsical animation Howl’s Moving Castle and her experiences growing up in the wilderness and along the coast of the Pacific Northwest, she combines playful surrealism with a deep reverence for nature.
Her signature style evolved from early hybrid works, like The Hillside and Time Flies, into fully realized compositions where animals support urban habitats and, occasionally, natural environments. Through intricate details and layered storytelling, each piece invites reflection on coexistence, resilience, and the profound impact of human existence.
Process, Medium, and Collector Appeal
Brandy works primarily in acrylic ink, layering intricate details to build miniature worlds within each painting. Her pieces range from intimate 8" × 10" works, which often feature compact urban mini-cities, to large-scale paintings up to 36" × 60", which incorporate smaller narrative elements within expansive compositions.
She uses only the highest-quality paints, materials, and varnishes to ensure each work is archival and long-lasting. Collectors are drawn to the originality, whimsical storytelling, and meticulous detail of her work. Each painting invites viewers to explore a layered world, where animals and human environments coexist.
Exhibitions and Studio
Brandy’s work has been exhibited across Canada in respected galleries, including Mayberry Fine Art in Toronto and Winnipeg, Ian Tan Gallery in Vancouver, and Hambleton Galleries in Kelowna. She currently paints and sells directly from her studio at the Rotary Centre for the Arts in Kelowna, British Columbia, and also offers her paintings for sale online, making her work accessible to collectors worldwide.
Continuing the Journey
The result is a body of work that feels both otherworldly and reflective our relationship with nature, offering narrative, surreal landscapes about nature’s endurance and humanity’s interdependence with the environment. Brandy hopes her paintings inspire reflection, encourage appreciation for the animals and ecosystems that sustain us, and spark a sense of wonder and curiosity in every viewer.
